Attacks of paroxysmal hemicrania occurring for more than one year without remission, or with remission periods lasting less than one month.
A. Attacks fulfilling criteria for 3.2 Paroxysmal hemicrania, and criterion B below
B. Occurring without a remission period, or with remissions lasting <1 month, for at least 1 year.
Patients who fulfil criteria for both 3.2.2 Chronic paroxysmal hemicrania and 13.1 Trigeminal neuralgia (sometimes referred to as CPH-tic syndrome) should receive both diagnoses. Their recognition is important, since both disorders require treatment. The pathophysiological significance of the association is not yet clear.
